POP Server, Standard and Implementation
- Server stores and forwards mail for POP clients
- Mail destined to the POP client is delivered to a unique mailbox
- The POP client can query and retrieve mail from the mailbox
- The mailbox is intended as a transient storage place until the POP client retrieves
the information.
- This interface also provides support for disconnected POP clients
- POP clients only connected to the server during mail send/receive
- POP is TCP based,
- POP3, version implemented by AS/400, is defined in RFC 1725 as having twelve verbs,
supported by the AS/400 POP server.
- 11 out of 12 verbs supported. APOP not supported
