TCP/IP Applications
Some popular TCP/IP applications are:
- FTP
- File Transfer Protocol. Simple ASCII, EBCDIC or binary transfer of
files between hosts.
- Telnet
- Terminal emulation. The AS/400 supports VT100, VT220, TN3270 and TN5250
both as client and server.
- LPD/LPR
- Remote printing. LPR is the client and LPD is the server. The AS/400
has both.
- Gopher
- This is a text based search and retrieval tool. It is a menu based
way to find and download information on the Internet. The AS/400 has both
client and server as an "as is" service offering.
- SMTP
- Simple Mail Transfer Protocol. This is the early e-mail for the
Internet.
- WWW (HTTP)
- The World Wide Web is an HTTP (HyperText Transfer Protocol) based
search and retrieval tool.
