SLIP
AS/400 SLIP Connection between two IP Networks?
- On AS/400 a SLIP connection can not be configured as intermediate IP network, except:
- IP addresses are assigned permanently and
- Default routes in the AS/400 can be defined to point to the remote SLIP IP address
- In many cases default routes are required to route in the local environment already
- Since IP interfaces are created dynamically, no explicit routes can be configured
- Note: SLIP connections are not appropriate to interlink IP networks - however SLIP is commonly used since TCP/IP traffic via switched phone connections is not possible any other way.
